US Senator calls Bush’s Black Female Judicial Nominee an Ape?

Posted by Anthony L. Hall

Bush’s judicial nominee Judge Janice Brown: Denounced as a “Neanderthal” by Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts…

The tenuous truce that was brokered 2 weeks ago between obstructionist Republican and Democratic Senators ensured that, after being treated like a political piñata, President Bush’s judicial nominee Judge Janice Brown would eventually be appointed to the US Circuit Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia. And, if the Congressional ceasefire holds, the US Senate will finally confirm her nomination this week in a Party-line vote.

Nevertheless, before she retreats to the sublime confines of the federal bench, it must be stated for the record that the way Democratic Senators and liberal interest groups pilloried Judge Brown – for purely partisan sport – constituted not only unmitigated professional harassment but also an unbridled abuse of the judicial confirmation process. And, it is instructive that it was the erstwhile liberal and racially enlightened Senator Kennedy who led this ad hominem and racist campaign against Judge Brown.

Sen. Edward Kennedy: The sacred cow of liberal politics!

It must also be noted, however, that whereas they fulminated against President Vincente Fox for his perfectly reasonable comments on black labor in America, black civil rights activists like Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton never uttered a word of condemnation against Senator Kennedy for his overtly racist denunciation of Judge Brown.

Conspiring adversaries Jackson (L) and Sharpton (R): Damn Al, can you believe our boy Kennedy called that sister a nay-ander…um, ah…ape! But here’s how we’re gonna play this: Did you hear what that crazy Mexican President said the other day…

Now, does anyone doubt that if a conservative white male politician had called a liberal black female judge a Neanderthal that Jackson and Sharpton would have orchestrated a hell raising condemnation against that politician – preaching their familiar refrain “no justice, no peace” – until he was forced to resign?
