Update: More School Teachers Performing Beyond the Call of Duty

Favorite Teacher?

The trend of female school teachers being arrested for “contributing to the delinquency of their students” continued this week. On Tuesday, English teacher Sandra Beth Geisel joined this rouges gallery for allegedly raping a 16-year old at the all-boys Christian Brothers Academy in Colonie, New York. And next week, a grand jury is expected to hand down indictments for this and ancillary crimes - like plying minors with alcohol as part of her M.O. of seduction.

(In a statement issued by the Catholic Bishops who run this academy, they expressed moral outrage, not at Geisel’s behavior (which they knew about and covered up for months), but at the media for running with this story before they had a chance to transfer her to another of their sex prey academies. Although, reading between the lines, they are probably relieved that at least this scandal does not involve the outing of yet another of their cloistered pedophile priests.)

At any rate, it should be noted that Geisel is not some misguided, twenty-something with her mind stuck in a high school daze – like her fellow notorious sexual predators masquerading as school teachers. Instead, she’s a forty-something married mother of four – including 2 boys of the same age as those she seduced (just imagine the teasing they’re getting from their friends). So, notwithstanding her fondness for booze, she clearly knew what she was doing – as her pet-students would no doubt attest. (Their only question is: How could something that feels so right be so wrong?)

In signaling her defense – which seems about as credible as “the dog ate my homework” excuse – her lawyer claims that Geisel intended to have sex with only one of her students; but that when his friends found out about his extra-curricular tutorials, they threatened to tell unless she tutored them too. Therefore, according to her lawyer, Geisel was blackmailed into tutoring a succession of boys (10 reported so far) – sometimes in ménage-a-trois to save time (she was a working mother of four after all).

Click here for prurient details on the how, when and where of this titillating story.

Nevertheless, one has to wonder about the moral indignation these stories evoke in some people; especially given all of the other societal ills that fester unnoticed. Indeed, why should anyone be troubled by a hot teacher giving a few lucky teenage boys some of the best educational experiences of their lives?

...or Criminal?

The prosecution of this teacher seems inspired by the crusade of Pope Benedict XVI against moral relativism. Yet, who better than a council of Catholic Bishops to offer guidance on the moral distinction that should be made between a 40-year old man sexually abusing an adolescent boy and a 40-year old woman treating a teenage boy to a life affirming sexual romp. (Never mind that some wayward priests seem to think that the former is a rite of passage for little boys.)

But, as a legal matter, the age to trigger statutory rape should be lowered to reflect the prevailing sexual mores of today’s society. And, we should put this “crime” into context as follows:

A teacher (male or female) having consensual sex with any student aged 14 or older should be fired and banned from teaching for life – but NO criminal charges should obtain. However, that teacher having sex with a student aged 13 or younger should be arrested and prosecuted on charges of statutory rape and related offenses.

After all, it’s one thing for Geisel to be considered a bad mother and a worse teacher; it’s quite another, however, for her to become a convicted felon facing 16 years in the pokey (no pun intended) for this essentially victimless crime.

Note: Anyone who says that 16-year old boys will be psychologically damaged by having their sexual fantasies fulfilled by hot teachers either was never a 16-year old boy or is just talking puritanical rubbish! Because, with obliging teachers, no lesson could prove more educational, wholesome and, ultimately, useful for teenage boys.

A very dedicated teacher. A few two on ones and a three on one. That is dedication. The AFT has really changed teaching the last 35 years.

In response to your article line "In a statement issued by the Catholic Bishops who run this "academy"..."

- this school has non-religious administrators - and there are NO bishops in the Christian Brother's hierarchy;

Additionally, in response to your "fact" that she has "2 boys who are the same age as those she seduced,"
-Ms. Geisel only has 1 boy who is even close in age to the "victims".

You also report that 10 victims have been reported so far - there are 4 alleged, and 3 supported (2 17-year olds, and the 16 year-old.)

Get your facts straight.

I appreciate your challenge to some of my "facts" on this story. Because no matter how irrelevant the "errors" you cite are to the thrust of my article, they should be noted for the record (especially if your source proves more reliable than mine).

But, for the record, my allegedly erroneous facts were taken from a FOX television interview given by John Aretakis who was introduced as legal counsel for one of the teacher's victims. Of course, it is understandable that he would wish to put the most negative spin on her transgressions and that, perhaps, deliberate or negligent misrepresentation of some facts is a part of his zealous advocacy....Perhaps.

But I trust you appreciate the insignificance, in this context, of establishing whether you or the lawyer is right about who issued the statement on behalf of the Catholic school, the age of the teacher's children or how many students she had illicit and immoral sex with.

But thank you for your comment. And, I invite you to read daily and offer similar comments whenever you deem them warranted.

You have to admit teacher Sandra “Beth” Geisel has desire. Not satisfied with one on ones she has a few two on ones and a three on one. Al Shanker has to be proug of the new progressive teachers.

hi ALH ipinions

that's a really classy response to that nit-picking, humorless person who wrote the 6:28 comment.

but you won me over way back with your "how stella..." article. your blog postings are a daily treat (informative and witty - even if some tight-wads don't get it).

thanks. michelle
