To The Bahamas: Happy Independence Day!
Father of the Nation: First Prime Minister of the Bahamas Lynden Oscar Pindling declaring his people’s independence from the United Kingdom on 10 July 1973
Last year, after posting a July 4th tribute in honor of American Independence Day, I neglected to post a July 10th tribute in honor of Bahamian Independence Day. And to this day, my family and friends cannot understand the oversight. But neither can I. I can assure them, however, that it will never happen again.
The re-naming of The Bahamas International airport in Sir Lynden’s honour - under the auspices of his widow Lady Marguerite - just last Thursday. Click here to read current PM Perry Christie’s homage to his eminently worthy predecessor.
So, to my fellow Bahamians, here’s to 33 years of independence: Forward Upward Onward Together….
