UPDATE: My misadventure in podcasting

A month ago today, I recorded my first podcast. But because I was cajoled into doing it by dear friends (who thought I had a “perfect radio voice”), I set a firm condition for future recordings:

I ended that podcast by declaring that it would be my first and last recording – unless a critical number of you (I had in mind 1000) submitted compelling ideas that would persuade me to make podcasts a regular feature of my weblog.

Well, as of this posting, my diligent blog moderator (who instigated this trial) had read and collated 5,139 of your kind submissions. But by some remarkable coincidence (I suspect a conspiracy) almost all of them proffered a consistent theme:
…tell us more about your personal life….What do you do for fun? What’s your sign? Are you married? Do you like Asian girls? [And other such mundane or far too personal suggestions]
Unfortunately, as flattered as I am by the interest, I couldn’t possibly podcast in this Oprahesque manner. After all, not only am I much too shy, but doing so would betray the very nature of my weblog, which is more political journal than personal diary.

Accordingly, I hope all of you will understand why I’ve decided to retire from podcasting. But at the behest of my friendly conjurers of this misadventure, I shall leave my first and last recording on the site as a monument to my feckless podcasting legacy….

Good night, and good luck!
