About Anthony Hall and The Ipinions Journal

Background and Education

My name is Anthony Hall and I am the author of the commentaries in this journal.

After spending my formative years in the Caribbean, I attended prep school in Florida and then went on to college and law school in Massachusetts (with 1-year academic sabbaticals in the UK during college and law school).

After college, I spent 6 exciting years in New York City before going off to law school. In NYC, I worked as an ACE-certified fitness trainer for a few years (and, I’m told, made quite an exotic impression on my loyal-Upper-East-Side-trophy-wife clientele). But as soon as it was practicable, I joined a Wall Street firm as a paralegal and got on the career path that has led me here to the Blogosphere.

Professional career

I moved to Washington DC in the early 1990s. I began my law career as an indentured servant at a K Street firm. Thankfully, after only a few years, I was paroled to the Clinton/Gore Reelection Committee to serve as their National Procurement Coordinator in 1995. Unfortunately, by the end of my tenure, I was thoroughly disgusted with establishment politics. Moreover, I had become as disillusioned with my boss as his former right-hand man, George Stephanopoulos, had become (and I encourage you to read George’s instructive lamentations in this regard in his political memoir entitled All Too Human).

But I am the master of my own professional fate these days - having founded an international political and business consulting firm in 1999. Unlike most lawyers I know, I am actually licensed to practice law (and in several international jurisdictions). Nevertheless, like most lawyers I know, I have never set foot in a courtroom because most of us specialize in the art of the deal and/or the plea.

Launching The iPINIONS Journal

I am fortunate to have a thriving practice. Unfortunately, the work is not very public spirited and provides little intellectual satisfaction. Therefore, I embraced the opportunity to launch this journal when a professional colleague introduced me to the Blogosphere in early 2005. Writing my articles is a thoroughly enjoyable and therapeutic diversion. And, I am pleased to have received honorable mentions from CNN, the Washington Post and other reputable media for my “unique and provocative” commentaries.

Therefore, as you read my daily postings and browse through my archives, I hope you find escape from the trite and predictable, conservative and liberal talking points that now pass for social, cultural and political debate. In addition, I invite you to visit Caribbean Net News to read about my region of origin and to access my syndicated column, which is published there every Friday.

Thank you for your support.
