Donald Trump has edged ahead of Hillary Clinton in a poll released Tuesday, the latest to reflect a tightening race as the campaigns kick into high gear after Labor Day.
The CNN/ORC poll shows Trump leading Clinton 45-43 percent in a four-way race, with Libertarian Gary Johnson at 7 percent and Green Party’s Jill Stein at 2 percent.
The numbers are a stark reversal from an early August poll that gave Clinton an 8-point lead over the Republican nominee, and the latest to show the race may be closer than it once appeared.

I vowed to refrain from commenting on the presidential horse race (or the Trump outrage du jour). But I cannot resist the spectacle of pundits covering their asses this week.
They are doing so because, just weeks ago, polls showed Hillary leading in nearly every swing state. And pundits duly predicted Trump was toast.
Except that those polls now show Trump in a dead heat with her. And, being “perfectly lubricated weather vanes,” pundits are duly hedging their bets.
In any case, I urge you to ignore what the polls show and what the pundits say. Because we are far more likely to see Democrats regain control of not only the Senate but the House to boot than see Trump win the presidency … BELIEVE ME.
By the way, have you noticed that he has gone from a freewheeling performer, like the former president known as “Teflon Ron,” to reading from a script, like a lobotomized goon — who should be known as Teleprompter Don? Which seems a poetic fate considering how this congenital hypocrite used to ridicule Hillary and President Obama for reading from Teleprompters like second nature.
But seriously, I see no point in explaining my prediction. After all, every pundit could have written volumes three weeks ago explaining why Trump was toast.
I’m on record damning Republican leaders for sacrificing their integrity at the altar of Trump. Some, like Rudy Giuliani and Mike Pence, have even sacrificed their dignity and common sense.
But suffice it to know that rank and file Republicans compose the new “silent majority” who will vote for country over party….
