CNN’s Jake Tapper Calls Out RKF Jr., the Conspiracy Crusader, on Story about Vaccines

RFK Jr.’s vaccine crusade was already bringing the Kennedy name into disrepute. Now this conspiracy nut is running for president. What could go wrong.

Tapper calls out RKF Jr.

Jake Tapper is one of the most famous and respected anchors in America. So anyone in their right mind would think twice about telling a big lie about his reporting. But Robert F. Kennedy Jr. hasn’t been in his right mind his whole adult life. So he had no compunction about weaving Tapper into one of his conspiracies.

On a June 5 Jordan Peterson podcast, Kennedy told a tall tale about how Tapper’s old ABC News network killed “our” story about vaccines causing autism. He accused ABC of doing so because its corporate bosses profit from peddling vaccines.

Tapper denounced Kennedy in a lengthy reply on CNN’s website. The headline itself speaks volumes:

  • RFK Jr.’s reign of error: Correcting the record about yet another false claim he just made

But the following is a fair summary:

Now in his retelling, a two-minute piece was an ‘incredible documentary,’ a few days of work was three weeks, one remote interview was me working intensely with him, and a piece that got delayed one day so we could interview some actual experts is a piece that got killed. …

He remains someone you cannot rely upon for facts, truth or accuracy.

RFK Jr.’s vaccine obsession

This anti-vaxxer claimed in 2005 that childhood vaccines caused all kinds of neurological diseases – most notably autism. Thimerosal, the vaccine preservative, was supposed to be the culprit. Except, drug companies removed it from vaccines many years before 2005. But that fact didn’t matter to RFK. That was his conspiracy, and he was sticking to it.

On links between vaccines and autism, Kennedy is like an Area 51 enthusiast trying to persuade you of your alien lineage. Intriguing? Yes. But, believable? Only if you believe in science fiction.

RFK Jr. says CIA killed JFK

As Tapper insinuates, RFK’s lies and conspiracies know no bounds. Nothing betrays this quite like his abiding claim that the CIA used Lee Harvey Oswald as a patsy to assassinate his uncle, JFK. Kennedy molds reality to fit his narrative like a child shaping clouds into dragons and castles.

I mean, this guy would have no compunction lecturing the pope about the papacy and Catholicism.

The Danger of the Kennedy Name

But Kennedy’s famous name alone makes him more dangerous than most conspiracy nuts. That’s because it confers unquestioning respect and credibility. And he’s so damn smart that it’s easy to believe he knows what he’s talking about.

He has a mesmerizing combination of family name, intellectual prowess, and zealous conviction. They make a potent trifecta. That’s why his lies and conspiracies look like high art compared with Trump’s kindergarten fibs.

RFK is running for president to spread his conspiracies

Kennedy running for president is like a kid playing with matches. The media attention is enabling him to spread his conspiracies like wildfire. Of course, he’ll only show up on CNN over Tapper’s dead body.

But, unlike Prof. Cornel West, Kennedy is running as a Democrat. That’s a redeeming fact.

Because it shows he’s sensible enough to know the damage he could cause by running as a third-party candidate. That is, by siphoning off Democratic votes that enable Trump or one of his demon spawns to win. Even Kennedy knows that would be a disaster for the country.
