Graduate students use Critical Race Theory (CRT) to examine the myriad ways race and the legacy of racism affect a person’s life experiences in America, especially with respect to education, employment, housing, healthcare, and the criminal justice system.
But Republican propagandists have reframed it as a liberal plot to impose the guilt of 19th century slavemasters on 21st century (white) schoolchildren. This, by poisoning their little minds with facts about the horrors and lingering effects of slavery. Of course, if that is too remote (or racial) for you, those Republicans are claiming, in effect, that CRT is a far greater danger to children than Covid.
The point is that, just as Trump incited his MAGA supporters to storm the US Capitol with his Big Lie, Republicans are inciting suburban moms to storm school-board meetings with their CRT propaganda. No doubt you’ve seen these moms making a spectacle of themselves on the evening news. They are clearly convinced that having their kids learn about slavery would be far worse than slavery was itself.
But kids being kids, iPINIONS thinks it’s only a matter of time before these suburban white kids will be hiding history books under their beds the way boys used to hide girlie magazines…
