Of course, this is the same president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, who is aping other world leaders by playing mediator between Russia and Ukraine just for “Likes”.
Everyone knows these mediation efforts are intended more to burnish the reputation and enhance the legacy of the mediator than to end this conflict. And I fully appreciate the historical comradeship that compels Ramaphosa even more than the president of China, Xi Jinping, to straddle the fence between Russia and the West.
I just wish Ramaphosa were smart enough to keep whatever stroking of Putin’s ego he feels oblige to do as private as possible. I mean, a call to “gain an understanding of the situation”? WTF!
