Alas, it has come to this.
Finland’s prime minister divorces husband
Sanna Marin today announced she is divorcing her husband, Markus Raikkonen, after 19 years together. Marin and Raikkonen, both 37, share a five-year-old daughter Emma Amalia Marin and were married nearly three years ago in August 2020.
But the couple, who had been together since they were 18-years-old, today announced they had filed for divorce.

But nobody should be surprised. After all, I presaged it last year in the blog post “Sanna Marin, Finland’s Party-Girl Prime Minister, Takes Drugs Test.”
Marin clearly preferred partying with her girlfriends to serving as prime minister. And speculation was rife that she preferred sex with them too. But her habit of partying the night away was untenable. After all, she was doing so while leaving her devoted husband to care for their preschooler.
Even she should’ve known she was dancing her career away. After all, she became the first world leader forced to take a drug test to prove she was still fit to lead.
What could be more ominous than that in this respect? This is why I even urged her to resign in the post I cited above.
Finland prime minister ousted
So it was no surprise last month when Finland ousted her for a conservative leader. And, of course, “conservative” is the operative word.
Most Americans are clueless. Yet even they got fed up with Donald Trump’s irresponsible antics. America ousted him in 2020. Joe Biden seemed like the cure for a political hangover.
So it stood to reason that the more informed Finns would oust Marin too. Her antics were deemed too irresponsible. They were a national embarrassment.
But, after that, her marriage must have seemed like little more than a drag on her personal life. So now she’s free – from the constraints of politics and marriage. I wish her well as she parties her life away…
