Super Bowl: The Chiefs Won, but Kelce Lost It. Run, Taylor, Run!

Patrick Mahomes was named the MVP but Taylor Swift was clearly the star of Super Bowl LVIII.

Let’s face it: this whole NFL season was more about the relationship between Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift than the games themselves. So it’s hardly surprising that this Super Bowl was too – from tracking Taylor’s flight from Japan to make it to Travis trying so hard to impress her that he lost it.

Chiefs defeat 49ers in overtime

Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Andy Reid have made the Kansas City Chiefs a dynasty. … Mahomes threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman in overtime, and the Chiefs rallied to beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 on Sunday., becoming the NFL’s ninth repeat Super Bowl champs.

With pop star Taylor Swift watching boyfriend Kelce from a suite, the Chiefs captured their third title in five years, a run that puts them among the league’s greatest franchises.

I was rooting for the 49ers. But it wasn’t about loyalty; it was more about hoping their win would be the bitter pill to cure the NFL’s sickening Taylor Swift sugar rush. Well, hope springs eternal.

The Chiefs are the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowl titles in 19 years. And Travis made clear they’re already planning for an improbable three-peat feat. But enough about the game, here’s the real story.

Kelce loses it

The Chiefs seemed to be suffering performance anxiety for much of this game. And, unsurprisingly, no player demonstrated their frustrations more than Travis. That’s because, for him, this game was all about him impressing Taylor.

With a measly one catch for one yard as the first half wound down, Travis’s frustration erupted like a volcano. Only that explains why Travis bum-rushed his coach on the sideline. He almost knocked Coach Andy Reid on his ass while screaming for plays that called for Mahomes to throw him the ball.

That smacked of a cringe-worthy act of elder abuse. Moreover, if Travis had bum-rushed a referee like that, the referee would’ve ejected him on the spot, and the NFL would’ve fined him real money. The Chiefs were never going to eject him, but they should make up for that by fining him twice as much.

Run Taylor, Run

Still, there’s no unseeing his Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde transformation. And you can bet Swifties won’t continue seeing him as a big, cute, cuddly bear who’s perfect for her.

In fact, Travis melting down like that was a glaring red flag flapping violently in the wind. And Taylor must have been fretting her ass off. Indeed, nerves had her biting her nails for much of the game. After all, Travis reportedly shocked her when he snapped at her after the Chiefs suffered a surprising loss in December.

So she had reason to fear what might happen if the Chiefs had lost this game. Had they lost, Taylor would’ve been forgiven if she left the stadium, got on her plane, and flew back to Los Angeles – alone. But you have to think Travis will behave himself this time.

Where was Brittany Mahomes?

Throughout the season, Brittany seemed to be less about supporting her husband and more about mugging for the camera and practically stalking Taylor. But, when the camera treated Swifties to the obligatory shots of Taylor up in her suite during this game, she was conspicuously absent.

Instead, there was Taylor with her real BFF Blake Lively by her side, hanging out with bona-fide celebrity friends, like rapper Ice Spice and singer Lana Del Rey.

I have argued that Brittany will be even more brokenhearted when Taylor dumps Travis than Travis himself. Sure enough, did you see her sulking on stage while everyone else was celebrating the Chiefs’ win? I suspect she was upset because she was not featured in any camera shot with Taylor during this, the biggest game of the season.

Frankly, Brittany comes across as an insufferable, social-climbing, attention-seeking snob! Patrick deserves better than her (and his insufferable, attention-seeking brother too).

So, I wouldn’t blame Taylor if she dumps Travis just to get away from Brittany.
