Trumpism rules conservative justices
Justice Sonia Sotomayor says she often cries over how conservative justices are trashing the Constitution. But their willful delay in ruling on Trump’s frivolous immunity claim is enough to make any patriotic American cry.
Of course, there should be no crying at the Supreme Court. After all, its proceedings are as steeped in judicial dispassion as they are in traditional formality.
Yet, conservative justices are trampling over judicial norms almost as much as Trump is trampling over political norms. So, it behooves liberal justices to fight fire with fire.

Liberal justices must resist
Accordingly, when the Court finally rules on this consequential immunity case, Sotomayor should use the occasion to dress down her conservative colleagues.
She should read her separate opinion from the bench, denouncing them as political hacks in judicial garb. And Sotomayor should end her denunciation by declaring: I dissent. I retire.
This would enable Biden to appoint a young liberal firebrand to replace her. Sotomayor should then go on a media tour to explain the dangers inherent in conservatives lacing American jurisprudence with so much political stench.
